The contribution of Giusto Manetti Battiloro for its renovation

The “Sposalizio della Vergine” by Rosso Fiorentino, painting of 1523, nowadays preserved in the Basilica di San Lorenzo, is now in renovation.

The work is especially characterized for the figure of San Giuseppe, portraied, differently from other works of its time, as a young boy, another symbol of the artist’s visionarity, contemporary of Pontormo and pupil of Andrea del Sarto, pioneer of Manierism in painting.

Giusto Manetti Battiloro decided to donate its 22 kt. genuine gold leaves for the gilding of the painting frame; a renovation, finished in January 2014, for which two expositions followed, one at the Italian Embassy in Paris, the other in Palazzo Strozzi, before this last step.
