Florence, October 2015 – 900 square metres of imitation gold laid out on the pavement of one of the most famous roads Florence’s historic centre, as a tribute to the uniqueness of the district that symbolises Florentine craftsmanship.
It all happened on Via Santa Maria during the “Umano” event, an international performance art exhibition conceived by dancer and choreographer Virgilio Sieni.
The incredible installation, which was entirely produced by Giusto Manetti Battiloro, was but together by artisans Marco Pelli and Gianfranco Garrutti, who, in collaboration with a group of set design students from the Academy of Fine Arts, worked for three weeks to position 60,000 imitation gold leaves 16×16 cm in size on long nylon sheets, with a mission present on-site.
