Pure silver leaf packaged in book format is available in two options: loose leaf and transfer leaf. Loose silver leaf sheets comes in different sizes and thicknesses and can be applied using the oil or water gilding technique. It is especially suitable for restoration and for use on carved surfaces, like inlays in wood, plaster and stucco, where the leaf is applied using a squirrel hair gilder’s tip.
Transfer silver leaf, available in 3.7 × 3.7 sheets, is laid on tissue paper, which facilitates handling and speeds up the gilding of flat surfaces. Leaves are simply pressed on the tissue paper without the use of any glue. Application using the oil technique is recommended at all times. Silver leaf, both loose and transfer, come in 25-leaf booklets.
