Size is the common name assigned to the adhesives used for the application and gluing of the leaf, both in precious metal and imitation metal.
Available in different basic formulations (water, alcohol, oil), the oil gilding sizes present in the range offered by Giusto Manetti Battiloro allow the application of the leaf on different types of surfaces and for gilding intended for both internal and external environments:
– water-based size for surfaces with medium porosity, such as wood, plaster, stucco and paper;
– alcohol-based size for smooth and compact surfaces such as metal, plastic and glass;
– oil-based size for gilding exterior surfaces.
Yellow water-based size
Gilding glue for interiors on wood, clay and stucco. Unlike the traditional water-based size, it allows to obtain a slightly yellower substrate.

Kölner Ceramic Size
It is a ready-to-use product specially designed for gilding or retouching of precious metals on porcelain and ceramics. It can be used both for new gilding and for retouching pre-existing gilding.
Kölner Permacoll Size
Ready-to-use acrylic-based size, used for gilding on smooth and compact surfaces, interiors only.
It has a greater adhesive power than Instacoll, even if the final effect will be less bright. Particularly suitable for gilding with imitation metals.
Kolner Instacoll Base Matt
Size for interior gilding with gold or silver leaf. It can be used on any surface, both porous or smooth and compact and allows for gilding with a matt finish.
Kölner system – high gloss base HA
Gilding glue (component 1) for all surfaces both indoor and outdoor for bright, glossy finishes. Ideal for gilding using thick gold leaf.
