Application

Originally developed as an alternative to solvent-based aging patinas and varnishes, water-based liquid bitumen is popular for hobby and decoupage projects. It adheres to acrylic golds and gold pastes, but more generally, it can be used on acrylic and oil paints. In the gilding world, it is most commonly used in combination with powders and shells. Another important quality: being water-based, it can be coated with solvent-based varnishes.

Composition

Ready-to-use powdered bitumen mixture and solvents.

Use method

Bitumen can be used both for patination and gilt ageing.The product is best applied with a pad or with brush over the whole surface to be treated, allowing the underlayer to absorb it. Excess product on the surface after application should be removed.Bitumen can be diluted if necessary with turpentine.

8 – 10 m2 / litre

Storage

Store in a cool, dry place in its own closed container and away from direct light and heat. Theideal temperature is 15-25 °C with humidity under 50%.
