Florence, April 2014 – The extraordinary exhibition to be hosted through January at the Stibbert Museum in Florence is a spectacular celebration of the history, war culture, and craftsmanship of the Islamic people.
For the first time ever, this exhibition, entitled “Islam: weapons and armour from the Frederick Stibbert collection”, will bring together all the artefacts collected throughout the Islamic world during the late nineteenth century by this great Florentine collector of English origins.
Through their decorative elements in gold leaf, silver leaf and precious gems, the collection’s armour, helmets, shields, swords, works of art, and elegant items of clothing recount a lengthy history of craftsmanship, and a surprising ability to give shape to symbols through objects.
