Florence, May 2019 – Giusto Manetti Battiloro is in attendance at the International Craft Show in Florence, with an exhibit designed to show the public the secrets and wonders of the gold-beating trade, which has been generating fascinating and alluring items of beauty for thousands of years.
The exhibit centres around the complex ten-hour production process, whereby the gold (melted at over 1000 degrees) is rendered increasingly thin, until it’s as light as a feather.
In the exhibition areas at Fortezza da Basso, visitors can even watch master craftsmen using gold leaf to gild wood and stucco items, as well as architectural elements and furnishings, and will be awestruck by the expert hands of Simone Beneforti, as he recreates an entirely gilded version of Leonardo da Vinci’s Vitruvian Man.
