Gilding Size: Glues for gold and metal leaf for sale

Size is the common name assigned to the adhesives used for the application and gluing of the leaf, both in precious metal and imitation metal.

Available in different basic formulations (water, alcohol, oil), the oil gilding sizes present in the range offered by Giusto Manetti Battiloro allow the application of the leaf on different types of surfaces and for gilding intended for both internal and external environments:

– water-based size for surfaces with medium porosity, such as wood, plaster, stucco and paper;
– alcohol-based size for smooth and compact surfaces such as metal, plastic and glass;
– oil-based size for gilding exterior surfaces.

Canvas - Size for paper and canvas

Ready-to-use size for gilding with a glossy effect on paper, canvas, parchment, leather, and other surfaces. Its elasticity ensures a durable gild, ideal for illuminated manuscripts: pages can be turned without the risk of damaging the gold leaf applied.

Smooth – Size for smooth surface

Water-based adhesive for interior gilding on non-porous substrates, primarily glass, plastic or ceramic. Recommended for gilding with precious metals, faithfully replicates the characteristics of a solvent-based size while being non-flammable and safe to use.

Metal - Size for imitation leaf

Water-based adhesive for gilding with imitation leaves on wood, gesso, or stucco in indoor environments. The product’s body allows for a consistent and even size base. The red version is recommended for imitation gold and Copper leaf to achieve a warmer effect, while the transparent version is suitable for Aluminum leaf.

Universal Size

Adhesive for outdoor gilding, ideal for applying precious metals to stone, metal and wood surfaces. Non-flammable and safe for transport, it provides results identical to traditional varnish-based size. Universal Size must always be diluted with turpentine.
