Method of use

The substrate to be treated must be carefully prepared in advance, ensuring it is perfectly clean, dry, and smooth, free from dust, impurities, or surface irregularities that could compromise the quality of the gilding. As this product is free of binders, the bole must be used after the addition of a protein-based adhesive agent in order to ensure proper adhesion to the substrate. The mixture is prepared by diluting with a solution consisting approximately of 90–95 g of water, 2–3% rabbit-skin glue, and 45 g of bole. Rabbit-skin glue with a higher bloom strength requires a smaller quantity of glue, all other components being equal, whereas a lower bloom strength requires a greater quantity. The indicated proportions may in any case be adjusted and customized according to the desired consistency and performance. Once prepared, the product is applied with a brush in thin, even layers, ensuring a regular and controlled distribution of the material, in order to obtain a continuous surface properly prepared for the subsequent processing stages. During application, it is important to work under suitable environmental conditions and to monitor the moisture level of the product, as the metal leaf must be applied when the bole is still sufficiently damp to allow proper adhesion. The applied product typically dries in approximately two hours, depending on environmental conditions and the thickness of the applied layer, after which finishing and burnishing operations may be carried out.

Storage

Store in a cool, dry place in its own container, closed, and away from direct light and heat. The ideal temperature is 15-25°C with humidity under 50%.
