MANETTI GOLD LEAF FOR THE MIMMO PALADINO’S “SLEEPER”

The Boboli Gardens will be hosting a site-specific installation by Mimmo Paladino, covered with 23kt gold leaf, until October 1.

Florence, June 2017 – A floating sculpture, resting on the water, moves over the surface of the Boboli Gardens’ magnificent fountain of Neptune, symbolizing human nature constantly oscillating between peace and chaos.

The work, entitled the “Sleeper” was created by the famous artist Mimmo Paladino, who has been working on this iconographic theme, using different materials, since 1999. The sleeper on display at the Boboli Gardens consists of a polyurethane foam structure protected by a layer of fibreglass. The entire surface was gilded using 18 booklets of 25 sheets of gold leaf in 23kt gold by Giusto Manetti Battiloro.

Visitors will have the chance to admire the shimmering reflections of the gold, suspended between the water and sky, at one of Florence’s most beautiful historic parks, up until 1 October.
